EA Sports has announced that Bruce Lee will be a playable fighter for the upcoming EA SPORTS UFC.
Brian Hayes, the Creative Director for the game, shared his thoughts on the obvious question: why?
I feel like this is the most ridiculous question. Why put Bruce Lee in a UFC game? It’s. Bruce. Lee…
You have the premier organization in the fastest growing sport in the world, the UFC; and the most iconic martial artist in the history of the world, Bruce Lee – a martial artist renowned for his philosophies that laid the groundwork for modern mixed martial arts. I can’t conceive of a universe where bringing these two things together doesn’t make sense. I know there are going to be countless fans that feel the exact same way and they will be eager play with such a legend in the UFC Octagon. I am one of them.
There is no question that Bruce Lee inspired martial-arts around the world, including games such as Mortal Kombat (with Liu Kang and the Shaolin Monks) and Street Fighter (Fei Long).
Since he is an unlockable character, you can do it in two ways:
It would be interesting to see how he would "actually" fight in this game because Bruce Lee was never known to follow the rules. One of his philosophies was "Do what it takes to win." Would he ever follow the rules to win a match? Would he care? Hard to say obviously since he's dead.
EA SPORTS UFC will come out this Spring.
