Obama administration celebrated a victory after 7.1 million people signed up for coverage under the new healthcare law. The overall goal for the Obamacare was to narrow the gap between those with health coverage and those without it. The enrollment period began in October with setbacks from the website and it ended with a surge of people trying to beat the March 31st deadline.
"This law is doing what it supposed to do. It's working. "Obama said with the Vice President Joe Biden on his side."The debate over repealing the law is over. The Affordable Care Act is here to stay."
Americans are divided over how they view the law. Last month, 46% said they viewed it unfavorably and 38% said they view it favorably according to a Kaiser Family Foundation poll.
The administration pulled out all the stops in the final weeks of the enrollment period. Administration officials took to the radio airwaves by participating in interviews, enlisted celebrities and athletes to promote the law. The overall effect was it surpassed the White House expectations in terms of last minute sign ups.
