Lots of fun events for young readers are happening this weekend in the Santa Barbara and Ventura areas! The events below are all free. Parents, help you kids get their listening ears on, their creative brains ready, and their crafty hands warmed up for some serious fun!
Friday, April 4
7:00 pm: Ventura County Ballet Company presents Snow White. Join real ballerinas in costume to hear the story of beautiful princess Snow White. Children are encouraged to wear their favorite fantasy costumes while they listen. After storytime, each child will have a chance to color his or her own crown to take home. Saturday, April 5
9:00 am - 5:30 pm: Art & Poetry Contest for Teens & Children (April 1 – 30). In celebration of April being Poetry Month and the week of April 13-19 being National Library Week, the South Oxnard Branch public library is hosting an art and poetry contest for children and teens of all ages. Kids may submit original poetry or a drawing, painting, or photograph that fits the theme of "Imagination @ Your Library." 10:00 am: Camarillo Library Teddy Bear Storytime. Round up those well-loved stuffed animals and bring them to the library for an teddy bear sleepover. There will be a storytime for all children and snuggly, stuffed buddies. After storytime, all stuffed animals will be invited to spend the night in the library. The stuffed animals will have lots of fun and will have pictures taken. Families are invited back on Sunday, April 6 to pick up the animals and pictures from the sleepover. (Children won't be spending the night, just the stuffed animals!)
10:00 am - 1:00 pm: Children's Reading Celebration & Youth Author's Fair at CSUCI. Visit the beautiful California State University Channel Islands campus to celebrate books, reading, and young authors. The featured author for this year will be Wade Bradford, Moorpark College professor and author of Why Do I Have to Make My Bed? Or, A History of Messy Rooms, published in 2011. After Mr. Bradford's reading, children are invited to get a free autographed book (while supplies last). Other volunteers will be present reading to children and helping them make bookmarks. 11:00 am: The Pigeon Needs a Bath! Storytime. It's bathtime and that little pigeon won't get in and get clean! Join storytime to hear Pigeon's newest story and see what can be done for that silly, dirty bird, plus get a fun pigeon coloring page and temporary tattoo.
