Parents, this may seem incredulous, but summer vacation for your kiddos is right around the corner. Looking for fun, yet educational activities to occupy your teen’s time between school years? Drop your 12 – 15 year olds off at The Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts for a five-day cooking course. The best perk? You might be able to convince your offspring to cook dinner for you for a change!
The Teen Cooking Technique classes will be held in two sessions: June 9th through June 13th and June 30th through July 4th. For 5 (or 1.75 when signing up with a friend), your child will learn hands-on foundational cooking techniques with guidance from a professional chef. In typical Auguste Escoffier fashion, the courses are focused on teaching the art of cooking through the use of seasonal ingredients.
Your son or daughter will cook a multi-course menu each of the five days spent in the kitchen. Possible dishes include: Sautéed flatiron steaks with chili lime butter; stuffed mushrooms; grilled halibut with beurre blanc; grilled vegetables; roast chicken with herbs; carrot ginger soup; and salsa and guacamole with homemade chips. Since no proper meal is complete without dessert, the teens will be whipping up sweet treats like chocolate chip cookies, marble bundt cake with caramel sauce, fruit smoothies and grilled pineapple.
Tickets for each session can be purchased online at http://www.escoffier.edu/. Hurry, spots fill up quickly!
